Claiming Your Prize: Step-by-Step Process
Won the draw? Here is exactly what you need to do to claim your cash prize from the Inland Revenue Office.
Finding out that your invoice number matches the winning draw is thrilling. However, the prize money is not deposited automatically. You must follow a strict process to claim your winnings from the government.
The 15-Day Window
Time is of the essence. From the date the draw results are officially announced, you have a strict window of 15 days to claim your prize. If you fail to present yourself within this timeframe, the prize is forfeited.
Where to Go
You need to visit your nearest Inland Revenue Office (IRO). It does not necessarily have to be the central office in Kathmandu; regional offices are equipped to handle claims.
Required Documents
When you visit the IRO, you must bring the following documents. Do not forget them, as claims will not be processed without them:
- The Original Invoice: You must present the physical bill or the verified digital payment receipt. Photocopies are not accepted. Ensure it matches the winning details exactly.
- Proof of Identity: Bring your official citizenship certificate, passport, or a valid national ID card to prove you are the person who made the purchase.
Verification and Payment
The tax officers will verify your documents against their CBMS records. Once authenticated, they will process the payment. Keep in mind that the final amount paid to you will be after the deduction of the windfall tax. The payment is typically made via bank transfer, so ensure you have your active bank account details handy.
