Digital vs. Cash Payments: Which is Better for the Draw?
Compare the manual upload process for cash bills against the automatic entry system for digital QR payments.
When purchasing goods in Nepal, how you pay can affect how you participate in the IRD Billing Prize Scheme. Let's compare paying with cash versus digital methods like QR codes and mobile wallets.
Cash Payments: The Manual Route
If you pay in cash, the vendor will print an electronic CBMS invoice and hand it to you. However, the system does not automatically know that you are the specific consumer holding that bill. Therefore, you must visit prize.ird.gov.np to manually upload the bill details. This requires extra effort, and if you forget, you miss out on the draw.
Digital Payments: The Automatic Route
The government heavily encourages digital transactions. When you pay using a digital wallet or a QR code that is integrated with the national payment switch, the transaction details are often captured automatically. In many cases, these digital transactions are automatically enrolled into the prize draw system, meaning you don't have to manually enter data on the website. Your transaction ID serves as your entry.
Which is Better?
Digital payments are undoubtedly superior for participating in this scheme. They offer convenience, eliminate the risk of forgetting to register your bill, and provide a permanent digital record of your transaction. However, even with digital payments, you must ensure the vendor generates a proper PAN/VAT electronic invoice for the purchase, as digital payment alone without an invoice is insufficient for eligibility.
